About
Then, you're curious...
October 31, 2008
I always have been hopping between web design and web development. Maybe a better definition for me would be a web designer that loves: to understand the code, to practice the trends in the web arena, with obsession in learning, and moving towards web standards.
When did I start my interest on the web?
In fact, my interest on the web started ten years ago.
- Reading Programando e Desenvolvendo em HTML para Netscape
- Reading Joe Burns: HTML Goodies and Javascript Goodies
- Taking classes at ZDUniversity (owned by ZDNet that time) with:
- Mary E. S. Morris
- Mickey Dodson
- and some others
After that...
I went back to college and took classes in web design and development , some others in computer graphics and also in other college I got a certificate in graphic design because...well, just because I wanted to know the dynamics of color, how to develop logos and corporate identity, and how things worked on the net and in printing. Among other things I learned that:
Graphic design is problem solving on a flat two-dimensional surface. The designer conceives, plans, and executes designs that communicate a specific message to a specific audience within given limitations-financial, physical, or psychological.
That is it! No limitation, No challange - No challange, No fun at all.
Of course in some point I knew the ideas of Jacob Nielsen and the web usability stuff. Lately I develop a particular interest in Eric Meyer, from meyerweb.com, best known for his advocacy work on behalf of web standards, Jeffrey Zeldman the originator and publisher of A List Apart and all the designers and developers that want to make the web a better place.
Before everything...
Once I was an engineer in the exotic country of Brazil where I was born, raised, learned to dance samba, and drink caipirinha. Yes, I miss a lot those friendly people. For a short time I lived in the not less exotic city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. No, I didn't see the twin towers. They were still building them, when I left. Finally I end up in southern California. Yes, I'm still here and loving it!
